I don't know how, but a little while ago, at 5 km, I citadeled a Colorado in my Atlanta whilst using AP. What were the mechanics at work behind this? I find it odd because it seems that every other Cleveland I run into slings napalm and thermite at me rather than AP. I'd like to know exactly what was going on here, I thought that the 152's AP was insufficient to pen BB armor unless at extremely close range. Does this happen because of the all or nothing armor layout on the conventional US battleships? Was he somehow penning my deck armor? But I still find it confusing that 152mm AP was taking out chunks of health(small but significant given I was around 11k HP when we started engaging, he almost killed me) at over 10km away. He never fired HE because I was never set on fire. But taking out at least 1-1.5k health with AP at ~12km range? Does that even work? And 2 or 3 of his AP salvos did hit my flat broadside(I had to maneuver to avoid torpedo bombers), those aside, every other time he hit me, I was angled towards him. Now up close, I could see the guns on the Cleve penning battleship armor when flat broadside. I was hearing a lot of bounces, but at the same time I was losing fair chunks of damage too.(large chunks given that I was already in the red health wise, probably between 1 and 2k per salvo) What I find baffling is he seemed to be penetrating my armor with some of the shells in his salvos.

Initially, he was under 10km from me, but he island hopped and started skirting, eventually ending up at about 12km out from me, all the while slinging AP rounds at my BB. Okay, he's fired AP, guess he was fighting CL's and didn't swap to HE before firing at me. When he first fires at me, I'm bow on to him and i hear and see all his rounds bounce.

Well, there was also a Cleveland in the area. I was in C with my New Mexico trying my best to combat an enemy Fuso(that was torpedo bombed by our carrier, thankfully).

Was pretty beat up and the match was nearing its end.
